Spotted Jellyfish (Mastigias Papua):
The Spotted Jellyfish originated from Australia, but attached to a ship and ended up in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Spotted Jellyfish feeds on fish in the larval stage and plankton. By eating the fish it reduces the number of fish that will grow to maturity, and reproduce. The plankton are a very large part of the food of very small fish. The Spotted Jellyfish greatly alters the food chain in an area.
The Jellyfish also have a negative effect on humans by stinging them with their tentacles.
